Can I expect help if I get lost or have problems on the course?

No, you are running solo or with whoever you feel safe running with. Be careful, make sure you know how to navigate, bring water and food, and prepare for extreme changes in coastal weather. You must be 100% self-reliant to run a Race the Commons race.

Directions to the start.

For directions to the start line, click this link and it will launch Google Maps. Search “Barloy Canyon Road & Watkins Gate Rd, California” on Google Maps for directions. Parking is free. After you park, walk 50 feet up Barloy Canyon Rd and the start line is an obvious gate that blocks car entrance into Fort Ord National Monument.

Why this Course?

This is a race for 5K runners, but it may also become your new favorite walk. Run it as fast as you can but you’ll want to return to walk and take in the mosaic of flowers, oaks, and grasses. You may start alone but you’re likely to make brief friends with a turkey, deer, coyote, or the occasional bobcat. Bring a camera!
